6 METRES & UP -

5W0GJ on 6m EME -
Now that the summer Es season is winding down, it is time to remind you again
that it is time for some half million mile 6m DXing to begin again!  In case any
of you serious 6m operators with digital mode capability still need Samoa (5W),
this is a reminder that I am going there in only FOUR WEEKS!  All you need is
some decent ground gain for your 6m yagi, an amplifier and JT65A mode.  For
North and South American stations, I will be elevating on MY end, so you can
just keep your antenna aimed at the horizon during your moonset during the last
days of August.  With ground gain and optimum EME cndx, amazing things are
possible - I worked N3CXV with his single 6M5X yagi on both my previous
DXpeditions to 3D2 and E51.  For European stations, our best chance is during
the week of August 22 during my moonrise.  Although cndx are not as good then as
on the last weekend of August, it is also your moonset, so we have a good chance
of ground gain on both ends, which should make up for the difference in
Degradation.
If you are one of the numerous 6m stations who have recently added elevation,
please try to catch up with me during my moonrise out over the water. I expect
that to be my best direction.  I was surprised to find W7CE with his single
6M9KHW pointed up in the air was one of the first stations I worked during my
first moonrise from 3D2 last fall! Full information is on my website below and
also will be updated there and on the MMM on VHF DXpedition website:
http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/Samoa2011.htm - Please read the information on
my website about my schedule and also familiarize yourself with the procedure I
use for my 6m EME DXpeditions:
http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/DXpedition%20Procedure.pdf
I am excited about handing out a new DXCC to many deserving 6m operators who
take the time to get on and look for me on JT65A mode.  Please spread out and
only work me once, to allow others an opportunity for a contact during these
limited days!  I hope to be able to update a list of stations worked from time
to time as I can find a place with internet access. I hope you also will be able
to add a 5W0GJ QSL card on your wall ;-)  GL and VY 73, Lance, W7GJ. [MMMonVHF]

SILENT KEYS -

It is with sad news that I pass along Scott Lehman, N9AG, the QSL manager for
PJ2T has become a silent key.  N9AG was the longtime manager for nearly all of
our operations at PJ2T answering literally hundreds of thousands QSL requests -
he will be greatly missed.
If you are waiting for a PJ2T confirmation, please be patient.

International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend (ILLW) -
This annual amateur radio event was started in Scotland in 1995 by the late
Mike Dalrymple (GM4SUC) and other members of Ayr Amateur Radio Group (AARG).
The event is always held on the 3rd full weekend in August starting at 0001
UTC on Saturday and finishing at 2359 UTC on Sunday. It also coincides on the
Sunday with International Lighthouse Day an event organised by the International
Association of Lighthouse Keepers whereby many world lighthouses are open to the
public for the day.
This years event takes place 20-21 August 2011 - Duration 48 hours.
The basic objective of the event is to promote public awareness of
lighthouses and lightships and their need for preservation and restoration, and
at the same time to promote amateur radio and to foster International goodwill.
So come and join us in the fun of the weekend, establish a station at a
lighthouse, lightship or maritime beacon.  The more the merrier. If you decide
to join us in the fun just fill in the official online entry form with your
details. This will enable other stations to be aware of who is participating in
the event. You may also send you entry, or any questions regarding the rules,
via the "Contact Us" link in the main menu.

ILLW milestone ahead of time -
With entries running well in advance of this time last year, the 300th is
club station OH6NR located at Rövargrund Lighthouse in Finland.
One of seven received from that country, the milestone entry is for an island
in Western Finland, to be activated by DXers as a club using the vanity callsign
OH6N, who on their recent outings to Rövargrund favoured HF through 6-metres
including the digimodes.
With 30 days to go there have been a steady average of five entries a day.
This is to escalate in the final weeks and it's not too late to get
permission to set up and make an entry.
Looking around the globe there's strong support from Argentina, Chile and
interest from Brazil in South America. In the north there's Canada and the USA.
In Oceania we have Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia. While across to
South East Asia to find Indonesia, Thailand, The Philippines and Malaysia.
South Africa and has a presence, with entries also received from England,
Europe, Portugal, Scandinavia, Spain, Lebanon and across to the Russia.
So far we have more than 40 countries in all including the smaller ones of
the Azores, Azerbaijan, Gibraltar, Honduras, Namibia, Puerto Rico and Saint
Lucia.
Visit the revised website at www.illw.net/ to check out the full list of
entries, read more details or register for the International Lighthouse and
Lightship Weekend on August the 20th and 21st.
