SPECIAL EVENTS -

26/02/2010:  In recognition of the historic events that took place in
1935 and 1940 which played a significant part in Britains war effort,
Bawdsey Manor, Suffolk, England (IOTA EU-005, WLOTA LH-1840, WW Loc.
JO01QX), will be activated on three separate occasions during 2010.
During its time as a the radar research centre and as an operational
station for Chain Home radar, it was known by the acronym BRS - Bawdsey
Research Station. Special event callsigns with BRS as the suffix have
been applied for to recognise this. Over the weekend of 26 to 28
February they will be on the air on HF, 6m and VHF, operating CW, SSB
and possibly some digital modes too. The callsign requested is GB75BRS,
since this operation will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the
Daventry Experiment, which resulted in radar development in the UK being
based first at Orfordness, then at Bawdsey. Later in the year they will
operate on two weekends to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the start
and end of the Battle of Britain in 1940. The callsign GB70BRS has been
requested. These weekends will be 5-6 June, and 18-19 September.
Operating bands and modes will be as for the February event. A special
QSL card will be issued to those making contact with either of the
stations, and a parchment certificate will be available on request to
stations who make contact with both callsigns - information about the
stations, operation and QSL arrangements can be found on their web site
at: www.bawdseyresearchstation.org.uk/ [G4HUP]

01/03/2010:  Special event station ON30ON (Oscar November Thirty Oscar
November) will be active during the months of March, April, September
and October of 2010. Activity is to commemorate the 30th edition of the
Belgian 'ON Contest'. The contest was first organized in 1980 to
celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Kingdom of Belgium. Since then,
the yearly event - lasting just four hours on a local Sunday morning -
has become increasingly popular. QSLs for ON30ON go via the UBA bureau
or direct to ON4CAS. A special certificate which can be achieved for
free has been created in PDF format. Full details are available at:
users.telenet.be/egbert.hertsen/on30on.html [OPDX Bulletin]

01/03/2010:  To commemorate the 132nd anniversary of the liberation of
Bulgaria from Ottoman yoke by Russia, the Balkan Contest Club, LZ1KZA
will operate with special event callsign LZ132GO from 1-31st March 2010.
QSL via LZ1ZF. LZ132GO counts for 10 points towards "St. Teodosii
Tyrnovski" award: www.balkanclub.org/awards.htm [F5NQL]

01/03/2010:  Look for special callsign 8N1MOMO to be active from 1 March
to 5 April to celebrate the 34th Koga(-city) Momo (or Peach) Festival
and the 17th Koga(-city) Fire Balloon Contest, Koga City, Kanto region,
Ibaraki prefecture, Honshu island (AS-007, JIIA AS-007-001, WLOTA
LH-2376), Japan. QSL via the JARL Bureau. [JJ1WTL/AC6IM]
