as 3D2T and 3D2A (prior to the C21AA Nauru DXpedition - see C2 below),
from Nadi between October 24th and November 9th. No details of their

was mentioned that they will participate in the CQWW DX SSB Contest
(October 29-30th), possibly as Single-Ops or Multi-Op (category was
not provided). QSL 3D2T via VK4FW and 3D2A via VK4AN.

3D2/R, ROTUMA (Update/Change). South Korean operators Choi/HL5FUA and

C2, NAURU (Update). Excerpts from a "C21AA Nauru DXpedition" #2 press
release dated June 4th, states members of Pacific DXers are pleased to
announce that 6 operators will be active as C21AA from Nauru between
November 10th and December 6th, with 3 complete stations on HF as well
as a dedicated 6m station. The confirmed team so far consist of Art/NJ7N,
Tim/NL8F, Eddie/VK4AN, Bill/VK4FW and 2 more operators to be announced
later. The press release also states, "Nauru is currently ranked at 44
on the world wide wanted list, 31 in most of EU and 19 on the wanted
Digital mode list." The team fully intends to operate on CW, SSB, RTTY
and PSK31, and on all bands 160-6 meters. For logistical reasons, all
equipment will be taken on same flight as 'excess baggage'. QSLs will be
managed by Pacific DXers, with the task going to Bill, VK4FW. QSLing is
available three ways..... direct, by the Bureau or online with Paypal
'postage' support. To request a QSL, and choice/pick the method you
want to use, go to:              http://www.vk4fw.com/oqrs.php
While each individual operator is responsible for their own personal
expenses including air flights, accommodations, food etc..... they are
seeking support to help offset other costs, such as the large excess
baggage charge, hotel room just for the radio equipment, QSL printing,
QSL postage for Bureau cards, phone calls associated with planning,
purchase of consumables and, most important of all... the donation of
some equipment to native Nauruan hams! A special Paypal account has
been set up for support at:     dxpedition@westnet.com.au  (Just add
your callsign/name and any comments in the 'comment/message' box.)
All donors will be listed on the Web site, which is still 'under con-
struction', so the following link doesn't work yet:
http://C21.pacific-dxers.com/supporters.html [unless anonymity preferred]
PLEASE NOTE: A special memento will be sent to donors who support them
with 50 USDs or more. These donors will be listed on the QSL card.
Organizations that provide support will have their logo and link placed
on the Web page as well as their logo on the QSL Card [unless anonymity
preferred].

DM-330; Scheunemann paddle, Heil Pro Set 4, Microham periphery and Note-
book. I will be using DX Wire masts and wires for vertical dipoles and

the operation. For more details and updates, watch:

ET, ETHIOPIA. The Ethiopian Amateur Radio Society (EARS) club station,
ET3AA, is once again active and on the air as of May 30th. According to
the IARU Region 1 Web page <http://www.iaru-r1.org>, " Professor Doctor
Heiko Schroeder, Head of the Technical Faculty of the University of Addis
Ababa and Hans Blondeel Timmerman, President of IARU Region 1 cut the
ribbon" to reopen the new shack. This is all thanks to donations from
the organization "STARS" and others individuals that helped to revive
ET3AA.An effort led by Sid, ET3SID, the EARS club installed their shack
and built antennas on top of the roof of the Technical Faculty at the
University of Addis Ababa. The station now has a 17 element 6-30 MHz
log-periodic antenna. EARS hopes that by the end of July they will have
more than 25 club members to take the Radio Amateur Exam. To read the
complete story, go to:              http://www.iaru-r1.org

pains and on Friday I underwent an operation to install three stents in
arteries around my heart. As a result, I am not able to travel to FS,
Saint Martin, and PJ7 as planned on June 6th. I will advise if I am
able to re-schedule for later in the month."

meters using Spider (18m) verticals. A week long side trip will be also
organized to Futuna Island (OC-118, DIFO FW-017, WW Loc. AH05WQ) for the
IOTA hunters in early February. The team also plans to take part in the

page). The guys will be on all bands from 80-6 meters, using 2 FT1000MP
MkV's and a K3. They will also be taking amplifiers for each band and
will also have the facilities for RTTY this year. Antennas will consist
of 2 home-brew Hexbeams, built by Ant (MW0JZE), verticals for 80/40/30m
(again home made by Ant and the team). All details of the island and
previous activations by the group are on their Web site at:

on his Web site at:              http://www.m0urx.com

direct requests for QSLs that he has been getting. Joe has reported
that he has already completed most of the direct and OQRS requests.

are thankful for the support of all our donors and by end of June we
hope to be able to upload our log to ARRL LoTW for members of clubs
who supported us as well as for individual donors. We will now initiate
the collection of member lists from those clubs - lists can be sent

SOUTH SUDAN DXCC STATUS (by Martti Laine, OH2BH). A press release sent
out by Jarmo, OH2BN, dated June 2nd, states: "With great anticipation,
DXers the world over are looking forward to the 9th of July this year
as the predicted day of South Sudan's declaration of independence. Indeed,
that declaration is set to happen, but it will not yet guarantee the birth
of a new DXCC entity, at least at that time. The DXCC rules are written
in such a way that only a new country's membership in the United Nations
and/or its ITU country prefix will result in the anticipated DXCC counter.
The U.S. State Department Geographer's list of Dependencies and Areas of
Special Sovereignty obviously does not apply in this case.
The opinion from the ARRL is that no exceptions will be made in this
case. They state that the event date - i.e. declaration of independence -
will not cause potential QSOs to be counted retroactively. Rather,
Newington categorically assumes that U.N. membership, which will most
likely come first, followed by the release of an ITU prefix by the U.N.
telecommunications agency, will lead to country status.
The prospect of a new country has taken an unexpected turn just recently.
The country's borderline has never been settled between North and South
Sudan in the area (Abyei) where most of the oil reserves are located. It
was agreed under the 2005 Peace Agreement that the border issue will be
resolved by the people in that province. A referendum to settle the matter
has not happened. Instead, the North (ST2) has entered the disputed
province with force. Additionally, the North has stated that they will
not support an independent State in the south unless the contested region
is theirs. The matter now remains totally in limbo.

While the amateur radio project announced earlier this year by 5Z4DZ,
ST2AR, W3UR and OH2BH is well underway, it is not yet reasonable to
swing your antennas toward South Sudan, as we speak. The project has
two well-known DXers now permanently based in South Sudan: SM7PKK and
YI1DZ/ST2DZ. The knowledge and the professional presence are in place
to proceed with an immediate activation as soon as the above country
status matters are resolved......More news to follow."

T48, CUBA (Rare 6m Grid). Members of the Federación de Radioaficionados
de Cuba’s in Las Tunas, eastern Cuba, will be active on 6 meter from the
Grid Square FL10MW, during the next "ARRL June VHF QSO Party" (June
11-13th) using the contest callsign T48K as a "limited multi-operator"
entry. This will be the very first time in the history that a ham radio
station transmits from this particular square on this band. Operators
will be Carlos/CO8CML, Douglas/CO8DM, Ernesto/CM8GJ and Raúl/CO8ZZ and
will use an Yaesu FT 857 running into a five elements yagi from F9FT.
QSL via DK1WI.

TM6, FRANCE (Special Event). Look for special event station TM6JUN to be
active until June 15th. Activity is to commemorate "D-Day" (June 6, 1944)
in Normandy. Operations will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY and
PSK. QSL via F5SAZ, direct or by the Bureau.
