2 METER DXCC ACHIEVEMENT. Lee, ZL2AL, reports that Bob McQuarrie, ZL3TY,
has just achieved the first and only 2 Meter DXCC in ZL and the Oceania
region. Only 62 2M DXCCs have ever been awarded world-wide, so it is an
amazing achievement to confirm 102 countries on this band from this part
of the world. Lee had the pleasure of checking Bob's cards before sub-
mission and was astounded to see so many rare QSLs from AF and EU.

3D2R, ROTUMA. Excerpts from a press release from Acim, YT3W, informs
OPDX that "a team of experienced amateurs and friends prepared a serious
amateur expedition to the far island Rotuma, which belongs to the state
Fiji". Their goal is to activate the beautiful island of Rotuma on all
amateur frequencies from 1.8 MHz to 144 MHz and all amateur modes. Their
team will operate on CW, SSB, FM, RTTY, SSTV, PSK, etc... Operators
mentioned are: Hrane/YT1AD, David/K3LP, Krassimir/K1LZ, Aleksej/UA4HOX,
Atilano/PY5EG, David/WD5COV, Vangelis/SV2BFN, Joe/AA4NN, Paul/N6PSE,
Vel/YT3WW, Victor/UA4HBW, Victor/RU4SU, Chuck/JT1CO, Badruun/JT1DO,
Danail/LZ1VVV, Choi/HL5FUA, Vasily/RW4NW and Acim/YT3W. They have the
landing permit and the amateur radio license for the callsign 3D2R.
The team of experienced amateur and friends will gather in Fiji on
September 24th, and expect a departure from the port of Suva on the
25th of September around noon. The journey takes 36 hours. They expect
the first activity on the amateur radio frequencies on September 27th,
and will be active the next 10 days. Return to Fiji is expected on
October 8th, in the morning. QSL via YT1AD, direct or by the Bureau.

7P, LESOTHO. Peter, EI7CC, will once again be active as 7P8PB from Lesotho
between August 18-30th. Activity will be limited because he will be on a
family holiday and will operate when circumstances permit. QSL via EI7CC,
by the Bureau or direct. Logs will be uploaded to LoTW immediately upon
his return to Ireland. If possible, Peter may try to upload them while
in Lesotho.

9H, MALTA. Jasper, PB2JJ, will once again be active as 9H3JN from Maseru,
Malta (EU-023), between September 2-14th. Activity will take place during
the 24th "VRZA Malta Expedition" organized by the Dutch Society of Radio
Amateurs (VRZA). Operations will be on 80-10 meters using CW and SSB.
QSL via PB2JJ by the Bureau. Online log will be available at:

on 20-6 meters mostly SSB. He is using an Elecraft K3 and a Yaesu FT-450
into Force-12 C-3 antenna and an M2 6m antenna operating mostly 10 watts.
He has been heard on 20 meters SSB between 0830-1030z. The length of his
activity is unknown. QSL via KI0SO CBA (probably a lengthy delay in
response).

be active as CW1R, the special event callsign for the Punta del Este
Lighthouse (ARLHS URU-008, ILLW UY0005, Grid Loc. GF25ma), during the

Straight Key Century Club (SKCC #7723), he plans to operate straight
key CW at or around 14050 kHz, and he will be looking especially for
SKCC members. Andy states, "This is NOT a DXpedition - just a vaction
with some hamming -- so frenetic issuing of signal reports will be a
low priority  :-)  though I'll try to make contact with those who want
them. I often check into the ANZA net which meets at 0515z daily at
14183 kHz -- so that's a good place to find me for a sked or to QSY
down to the CW part of the band --- or you can try E-mailing me -
we'll have limited connectivity but I'll check at least every second
day...and..... band conditions are MUCH improved from last December."

SA-045.  (Update) A press release by Fred, PY2XB, states that the
Brazilian team will start their trip to Macapa, capital city
of Amapa State, on Sunday, May 14th, to head towards Parazinho
Island in the Balilique archipelago to activate it. Fred/PY2XB
and Orlando/PT2OP will use PQ8XB and PQ8OP callsigns, respec-
tively, between August 17-25th. They plan to be active on
40-10 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY.  The island is located
in the mouth of the Amazon River where it encounters the sea.
Life in this region is governed by tides; and therefore, dates
and boat schedules are tide dependent. They will stay at the
Parazinho Environmental Reserve. There are links for 2 shorts
videos about the reserve at:   http://www.qrz.com/db/pq8xb
Logistics are complicated to accomplish their task. Orlando
had to fly to Macapa a few months ago to check all priors
before their departure. They will carry fuel, food, water,
batteries, a spare generator, etc... in a 12 hours boat trip
from Macapa to Vila Progresso, a fishermen village, plus a
30-40 minutes small boat trip to the Reserve, all tide de-
pendent. There are very few operators in PQ8 land, so they
will be glad to give everyone a first contact to this rare
Brazilian spot and callsign. Contacts will be valid for IOTA,
DIB, DFB, WLOTA and ARLHS awards. When returning home, they
will stop over in Macapa for a couple of days. They may activate
São José de Macapá fortress using their callsigns /PQ8, if
possible. QSLs for PQ8XB will be handled by PT7WA and for
PQ8OP by PT2OP. Additional information when available will
           be posted at:          http://www.qrz.com/db/pq8xb
Fred states, "We would like to thank everyone who helped us
to put this operation together. Special thanks to Mr. Manoel
Reinaldo from Amapa Environmental Office, Policarpo/PY8JPS,
           and Sandro/PQ8SL, Luciano/PT7WA, and Ed/PY4WAS and Alex/PY2WAS."
