2012 INTERNATIONAL YL DAY 10 METER SSB CONTEST. The Federación de Radio
Aficionados de Puerto Rico (FRAPR), will have their first "International
Woman's Day 10 Meter SSB Contest" on Saturday, March 3rd, at 9am (1300UTC)
until 8:59pm (0059 UTC) on Sunday, March 4th. It will be between the
frequencies of 28.300 to 28.500 MHz with maximum output of 100 watts.
The contest is to promote Amateur Radio female operators to participate
on the lower bands. For rules and log sheet, please go to:
http://www.frapr.org/2011/concurso_10m_2011/Reglas_logbook_mujeres_2012.pdf
Even though this is a local contest, there will be a special certificate
for those female operators from other countries who contact the Puerto
Rican YL's. To obtain a special certificate, please send SASE to:
FRAPR RR1 Box 6418, Guayama, PR 00784-9606.

3C0, ANNOBON ISLAND (Update). By the time you read this, operators
Elmo/EA5BYP and Javier/EA5KM are now active as 3C0E from Annobon Island
(AF-039; Pagalu). Nothing was heard about a possible extension, so activity
will last until March 11th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW,
SSB and RTTY. See OPDX.1047 for suggested frequencies. QSL 3C0E (as well
as 3C6A) via EA5BYP: Elmo Bernabé Coll, P.O.Box 3097, 03080 Alicante,
Spain. For more details and updates, watch the Web page at:
              http://www.gdgdxc.net/3c0e/index.php

4J0, AZERBAIJAN (Lighthouse Op). Members of the "Safari DX-Activators Club"
will activate Nardaran Lighthouse (AZE-008) and possibly (depending on
permission) Shuvalan Lighthouse (AZE-007) between March 3-4th. Activity
will be between 0800-0000z approx. The callsigns to be used by the team
of operators are 4J0LH for Nardaran, and 4J0SFR for Shuvalan. The main
bands of operation will be on 40 and 20 meters. They will use two IC-718
w/PA-200W into multi-band Delta-42m and Inverted-V antennas. QSL via 4J5T.
Operators mentioned are Yasuhiko/JR0HYT (QRP), Boris/4K4K (CW), Sergey/4J5A
(CW), Oktay/4J7A (CW/SSB), Farid/4K6AF and Natig/4J5T (SSB, team leader).

4K, AZERBAIJAN. Axel, DL6KVA, will once again be active as 4K0CW from
Baku between March 15-20th. Activity will be CW only on all HF bands
(depending on the band conditions) using 100 watts into a 84m long wire
(from Vlad's, 4K9W, QTH). Axel also plans to participate in the Russian
DX Contest (March 17-18th) as a Single-Op/Low-Power/CW entry. QSL via
DL6KVA (Bureau OK). Logs will also be uploaded to LotW.

5N, NIGERIA. Bodo, DF8DX (ex-DL3OCH and 5N0OCH), will once again be active
as 5N7Q from Abuja between March 7-14th. He is there for maintenance work
on a broadcast station. Activity will be on 40-10 meters using one of the
largest fully rotatable huge broadcasting antennas on modes CW and SSB.
Bodo informs OPDX, "In the past, I had alot of QSOs on 80m, even though
the antennas are not really designed for that band. I will try to be
active on 80m as often as possible. These antennas that I use have a
20dBi gain on all frequencies from 6-26 MHz. They are optimized as
transmitting antennas. They are very broadband tuned and therefore also
catch alot of noise. So, whenever there is some QRM or QRN, it's a lot
stronger on my antennas, and I cannot always use them on frequencies below
10 MHz. The QRM is just too high, and I don't copy anything. But there
are days where I switch to 80m and the entire band is very calm and
noise is only S1. I then had fantastic DX QSOs on 80m. I will try that
for sure again, but it's not only depending on me." QSL via DF8DX, direct
or by the Bureau. All QSOs will be uploaded to LoTW.

6V, SENEGAL (Now 6m!). Members of the Saly Amateur Radio Club Station
(ADRASEC) in Mbour will activate the special callsign 6V7SIX to celebrate
the newly allocated band 50-51 MHz in Senegal, recently obtained at WRC-12.
This is a temporary authorization valid until the new ITU Radio Regulations
(WRC-12) come into force, normally by the end of 2012. The 6V7SIX Radio
Club operators will be listening to 50.110 MHz (Intercontinental calling
frequency) and 50.210 MHz (French calling frequency). The 6V7SIX callsign
is the first, and for now, the only station authorized to operate on the
6-meter band in Senegal. 6V7SIX is proud to be sponsored by the UK Six
Meter Group (UKSMG) and InnovAntennas. QSL via eQSL and LoTW only.

7P, LESOTHO. Gert, ZS6AYU, will once again be active as 7P8GF between
March 8-13th. Activity will be holiday style on 40-10 meters, CW only
and using just 100 watts into a vertical. QSL via ZS6AYU (see QRZ.com).

8Y, GUYANA. Operators Anderson/PY2TNT and Alex/PY2WAS will be active
as 8R1PY from Lethem, Guyana, between April 5-8th. Activity will be on
80-10 meters, including 30/17/12 meters, using CW and SSB. QSL via
PY2WAS, direct or by the Bureau.

9Q, DEM. REPUBLIC OF CONGO (Update). Barney, ZS6TQ/ZS4U, will once again
be active from here, but this time as 9Q6/ZS4U between March 14th and
April 8th (not March 10th and April 5th, as first announced). Activity
will be limited as work permits, mainly on the weekends and some days
during the week between 1300-1500z. Operations will be on 40/20/15/10/6
meters using dipole antennas and operating CW, SSB and PSK31. QSL via
K3IRV.

A3, TONGA (Reminder). Sigi, DL7DF, will head up a team of 9 experienced
operators to be active as A35YZ between March 7-24th, 2012. Operators
menitoned are Manfred/DK1BT, Georg/DK7LX, Wolf/DL4WK, Reiner/DL7KL,
Sigi/DL7DF, Juergen/DL7UFN, Frank/DL7UFR, Jan/SP3CYY and Leszek/SP3DOI.
Activity will be active on 160-6 meters using several stations operating
on CW, SSB with one station exclusively dedicated to RTTY, PSK31 and SSTV.
QSL via DL7DF, direct or by the Bureau.

BX5, TAIWAN. Jimmy, BX5AA, will be active during the ARRL DX SSB Contest
(March 3-4th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (15m)/High-Power entry. Jimmy
states that BX5 is a rare prefix for Taiwan (CQ 24). QSL via BX5AA.
Visit his Web page at:        http://blog.yam.com/bx5aa

CE0Y, EASTER ISLAND. Tim, NL8F, will be active as CE0Y/NL8F from Easter
Island (SA-001) before and after the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th).
Tim informs OPDX that he is trying to get a CE0Y callsign. Activity
outside of the contest will mainly be on 17 and 12 meters, but he does
have capabilities for 80-6 meters. Depending if he can tune on 75 meters,
he will try the DX window on the gray-line times. Operations will be
mostly SSB and maybe some Digital depending on quiet times. Also, during
the contest, he may operate as a Single-Op/Single-Band (10m)/Low-Power
entry, but if conditions are not right, he will operate as an All-Band
entry. He will have an amp with him, but will only use it outside of the
contest. Reports indicate that he will be there until March 26th, and
may also activate one or two other South American IOTAs before he departs
to Chile on April 3rd. QSL as of press time is via his home callsign,
but this may change. More details are forthcoming.

CR2, AZORES (Going After The EU Record). Operators Martti/OH2BH, Ville/
OH2MM and Juha/OH8NC have decided (in spite of relative poor prediction)
to put the 1991 EU record to rest. Listen for CR2X to be active on all
six bands during the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 3-4th) as a Multi-Single
entry. QSL via OH2BH.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME (DST). Just a reminder that countries who observe
this, Daylight Saving Time will take place on Sunday, March 11th at
2:00 AM, and the clocks are moved forward 1 hour to 3:00:00 AM local
time. Daylight Saving Time will end on Sunday, November 4th at 2:00 AM.
For the history and details about DST, as well as an interesting map
of the world, see:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time

entry. QSL via NP3O. Look for more info on:    http://kp2b.net

GI100, NORTHERN IRELAND (Special Event). During the month of April, look
for special event station, GI100MGY, to be active from the RMS Titanic's
home city of Belfast. The suffix, MGY, was the callsign of the ill-fated
ship, which was launched from Belfast in May 1911. The special prefix,
GI100, was allocated to the "Project WhiteStar" special event team by
Ofcom, the UK regulator. Activity will be on 80-10 meters using all modes.
On April 15th, there will be a 2 minute station silence at 01:47 am, the
exact time when the vessel sank, in memory of all those who lost their
lives that night. On the evening of 14th and 15th, most of the operations
will be on CW. QSL via GI4FUE direct or by the RSGB Bureau (details are
on QRZ.com).

KP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. Harry, W6DXO, will once again be active as
KP2/W6DXO from Cruz Bay, St. John Island (NA-106), between April 18-23rd.
He informs OPDX that this is his fourth time there. Activity will be
holiday style operation, and he states, "Because this is not a real
DXpedition, but rather Ham radio tacked on to a snorkeling trip I'll
be traveling light: IC706IIG and a vertical antenna. I've used this set
up all over the world with great success and it fits into a simple roller
suitcase. I'll concentrate on 17m and 20m SSB and CW." QSL via KF6JOQ.

LX, LUXEMBOURG. Philippe/LX2A will be active as LX7I during the ARRL DX
SSB Contest (March 3-4th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry. QSL via LX2A.
Visit the following Web page at:        http://www.lx2a.com

MJ, JERSEY. Operators Craig/K3PLV and Pete/K8PT will once again be active
as MJ/K3PLV and MJ/K8PT, respectively, from Jersey starting March 27th
through April 3rd. They will have amplifiers and directional antennas on
most HF bands and will have the capability to operate 160-2 meters using
modes CW, SSB, RTTY and perhaps some PSK. Please QSL to their home calls.

NH8/S, SWAINS ISLAND (Excerpts from a Press Release). Operators Joe/W8GEX
and Craig/K9CT will lead a multi-international team of operators to the
rare DX entity Swains Island (OC-200) in September (their Web page states
September 4-18th). Joe and Craig are the same co-leaders of the very
successful PJ7E DXpedition on 10-10-10, and were also part of the team
that re-activated Midway Island (K4M) in 2009. Swains Island is ranked
number 31 on the "DX Magazine's Most Wanted Survey" and number 30 on the
"ClubLog's Most Wanted list". Because of the anticipated demand, a highly
experienced team of 20 operators has been formed. The team will operate
six stations over a 14 day period, from 160-6 meters on all modes, using
the callsign NH8S. A great emphasis will be put on Europe where it is most
needed. The current list of team members include Joe/AA4NN, Norbert/DJ7JC,
Dietmar/DL3DXX, Massimo/I8NHJ, Alan/K5AB, John/K6MM, Kevin/K6TD, Craig/
K9CT, Fred/KH7Y, Lou/N2TU, Arnold/N6HC, Mark/NA6M, Tom/ND2T, Garry/NI6T,
Hawk/SM5AQD, George/W4BUW, Charles/W6KK, Joe/W8GEX, David/WB4JTT and
Jerry/WB9Z. Swains is a privately owned island, and the only way to get
there is from American Samoa via a ship. The time frame of this operation
may not be the best for the low bands, but dates are dictated by trans-
portation and weather. The team of international operators will first
gather in Honolulu and then travel to American Samoa together. Landing
permission has been granted for the tent and generator operation by the
owner for this timeframe. A Web page is currently under construction
by team member John, K6MM, which will provide updates as they become
available at:                http://www.nh8s.org
There are no communication systems on Swains, but logs will be uploaded
daily via satellite phone. Later, the group will also have an OQSL link
on the Web site for easy QSLing. All equipment must be sent from the U.S.
via cargo ship in June. Location, transportation, island costs, and other
logistics make this a costly trip. Therefore, donations are very much
appreciated. Details of how to donate  to help defray their expenses are
on the Web site. The team wants to thank ICOM who will be supplying
IC7600s for their use. Also, they would like to thank Joe, AA4NN, who
will be their QSL Manager, and to Carl, N4AA, Editor of "The DX Magazine"
who will sponsor the log search.

NP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. Operators Randy/N0TG, Jeff/N1SNB and Ron/AA4VK
will be active as NP2/homecall from St. Croix (NA-106) between March
7-14th. Activity will be on all bands and modes. This will also include
CW and SSB on 60 meters. QSL for all callsigns are via N0TG, direct or
by the OQRS (Details via <www.N0TG.com>).

P4, ARUBA. Operators Scott/K0DQ, Ed/N4OC and John/W6LD/P40L will be
active as P40L from Aruba (SA-036) during the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March
3-4th) as a Multi-Single entry. QSL via WA3FRP.

P4, ARUBA. John, W2GD, will be active as P40W from Aruba (SA-036) during
the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th). He will be on Aruba between March
20-27th. Operations outside of the contest are usually on 160m and 30/17/12
meters as time permits. QSL via LoTW or direct to N2MM. Logs will be loaded
on LoTW upon his return to the USA.

P4, ARUBA. Operators XYL Hiroko/JH3PBL, Masumi/JA3AVO and two other
operators will be active from the on Aruba (SA-036) between May 9-14th.
Operations will be from "Cook's Radio Retreat" <http://www.p49v.com>.
XYL Hiroko/JH3PBL, Masumi/JA3AVO will be active as P40U (SSB) and P40X
(CW, Digital), respectively. The other two operators have their callsigns
pending and will operate SSB only. QSL via their home callsigns. For
more details and updates, watch Masumi's Blog page at:
                      http://ja3avo.blog81.fc2.com

PZ, SURINAME. Serge, RX3APM, will once again be active as PZ5P between
March 21-26th. Activity will include the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March
24-25th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry. QSL via UA4LU or LOTW.
