22/07/2009:  Kostas/SV1DPI, Nikos/SV3BSF, Dimitris/SV1CIB and/Vasilis
SV1DPJ will go to Kythira Island (EU-113, GIOTA INS-004, MIA MG-062
WLOTA L-1703) from late afternoon of July 22nd to July 26th. During the
IOTA Contest the call will be SX8Z. Before the contest the operators
will be active signing call/8. QSL for operators via bureau or direct.

23/07/2009:  C6APR will be in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25-26th) from
the Crooked Island Lodge, Pittstown Point, Crooked island (NA-113),
Bahamas, as a Multi-operator, Mixed-mode, High Power, DXpediton entry.
The team is Peter/W2GJ, Ed/K3IXD, Dallas/W3PP, and Jim/K4QO. Before and
after the contest (from July 23 to 27th) C6APR will be on 80m to 10m
including the WARC bands, CW and SSB. The team will sign C6AXD on RTTY
and C6AQO on 6m (grid FL22). The calls are good for Bird Rock Lighthouse
(ARLHS BAH-005, Admiralty J 4792) as well as IOTA NA-113 and Grid

23/07/2009:  Members of the NA-128 Contest Group will activate the
special callsign CG200I (Charly Golf Two Hundred India) from Ile Verte
(NA-128, CIsA QC-015, Grid FN58) between July 23-26th, including an
entry in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25-26th), to commemorate the 200th
anniversary of the lighthouse (ARLHS CAN-244, WLOTA 1404). Operators
mentioned are Frank/VA2RC, Martin/VA2ZO, Eric/VE2EDA, Dany/VE2EBK,
Jean/VE2FSK, Steve/VE2TKH, Martin/VE2MTK and Guy/VE2QRA. The group will
operate many stations from the lighthouse keeper's quarters on all bands
(160-6 meters) and all major modes (AO-51, SSB, CW and RTTY/PSK31).
During the IOTA Contest, a station will be dedicated to the contest
exclusively on SBB or CW. The QSL is via VE2CQ, direct or Bureau. Note:
NA-128 is made up of more than 45 islands, rocks and smaller reefs and
more than half of them are accessible for future NA-128 expeditions.

23/07/2009:  Members of the Dalkey Island Contest Group plan to activate
Clare island (EU-121, WLOTA L 1935), County Mayo, for the forthcoming
IOTA Contest which takes place July 25-26th. The callsign EJ1DD will be
used in a '100 watt DXpedition' entry. QSL information is via EI7CC.
Operators will be Paul/EI2CA, Paul/EI5DI, Tony/EI6EW, Peter/EI7CC,
Sean/EI7CD, Seamus/EI8BP and Aidan/EI8CE. Look for activity also from

23/07/2009:  David, EI3GKB will be active July 23-27th as EJ3GKB from
the island of Inisheer [Irish: Inis Oírr] (IOTA EU-006, WLOTA 2314, WW
Loc. IO53FB), Aran Islands, Co Galaway, including an entry in the RSGB
IOTA Contest (July 25-26th). QRV 80-6 meters, before and after the IOTA

23/07/2009:  The Cray Valley Radio Society will once again be active as
G3RCV/p on the Isles of Scilly (EU-011) from July 23-28th on all bands,
and we will sign M8C during the IOTA contest. There will be no 2 meter

23/07/2009:  Members of the Barry Amateur Radio Society (BARS) will
activate Flatholm Island (EU-124, WLOTA L-0007), Wales, again for five
days this year between July 23rd and July 28th. During the RSGB IOTA
Contest (July 25-26th), they will use the callsign GW8K. They will use
the callsign GB5FI for activity before and after the contest. QSL via

23/07/2009:  Operators Colin/G3VCQ, Sharon/M3VCQ, Andy/M0GAV,
Joanne/2E0JOX and Tim/2E0TJX will be active as MM3M during the RSGB IOTA
Contest (July 25-26th) from the isle of Arran (EU-123, IOSA CL01, SCOTIA
CS14). Operations before and after the contest (July 23-27th) possibly

23/07/2009:  Alfredo/IK7JWX, along with second Op Vincenzo/I7PXV will
activate a new reference for the Italian Castles Award (DCI LE-269),
July 23rd, using the callsign IY7NGM/p. They plan to activate the Castle
of Casamassella-Uggiano La Ch. (DCI reference LE-269) on as many HF

23/07/2009:  Members of the Cockenzie & Port Seton Amateur Radio Club
will operate from the island of Tiree [Gaelic for 'land of corn'] (IOSA
NH04, SCOTIA DI10, WLOTA L-2232, WAB NM04), Inner Hebrides (EU-008),
during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25-26th) using the club's special
contest callsign GM2T. Look for pre-contest activity by the members

be using high power in CW and SSB into a Yagi-Antenna for 20-10 meters,
a SteppIR-vertical (BigIR) for 40-10 meters and Dipoles for 80 and 40
meters. This activity also counts for the Vadehavet National Park (WFF

23/07/2009:  A Ukrainian and Moldavian team will be active as homecall/p
from Tuzla Island (EU-180) between July 23-27th. Activity will be on CW

UU0JM, UU1AZ, UU4JDD, UU4JMG, UY6IM, UT/ER1DA, UT/ER3DW, UT/ER3DX and

24/07/2009:  The Wangjing HAM DX club of Beijing, China, has received
approval and will be active from Liaoning East Group (AS-158) from July
24-26th, including the IOTA Contest. Operators mentioned are BG1WUM,
BG1TEM, BG1UXS, BG1MFE, BH1BRF, BH1INL and BD1HFP. They will use

24/07/2009:  A group of CT1/CT3 Operators will be QRV as CR3D and CR3R
from Chao Islet (DIP MAD-003, DPRN FF104, WLOTA 1366), Desertas Islands
(AF-046), Maderia Archipelago, from July 24-26th. They will also be
activating the Ilheu Chao lighthouse (DFP MAD-003, ARLHS MAD-001, TWLHD
WLH CT3-001, WW Loc. IM12RN). Operators mentioned are Barros/CT3BD,
Luis/CT3DL, Duarte/CT3EN, Luis/CT3EE, Jose/CT3MD, Duarte/CT3KY,
Joao/CT3NY, Jorge/CT1BOL, Jose/CT1CJJ, Paulo/CT1EFS, Filipe/CT1ILT and
Firmino/CT1IZW. Part of the Team will be mainly focused on the IOTA
Contest, others will operate mostly WARC + VHF bands, using SSB, CW and

24/07/2009:  Gabriele LZ/IK3GES, Boyan LZ1BJ/1 and Lyuben LZ1ZC/1 will
be active from Sveta Anastasiya Island (IOTA EU-181, WLOTA L-0035)
between July 24-27. They plan to use 100 watts into a 10 element
log-periodic on 20/17/15/12/10 meters. Some activity on 40/30/6m is also

24/07/2009:  Operators Gosho/LZ1ZF, Boris/LZ2JR and Rumen/LZ2RS will be
active as LZ01WFF from the Sokolski Monastery (Orthodox Name: "Holy
Mother's Assumption"; established in 1833), located in the district of
Gabrovo, Central Balkan National Park (LZFF-022, WW Loc. KN22QT) from

24/07/2009:  The Strumblehead DX and Contest group have now sealed the
final permission to activate Ramsey Island (EU-124), off the West Wales
coast, from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds who own the
island. They will be active from 18:00 24th July through to 14:00 27th
July taking in the IOTA contest. They will be active using the club call
MC0SHL for the whole duration of the operation, and using MW9W in the
contest. They will be on all bands from 80M through to 10M SSB. There is
also some 30M RTTY planned by G1VDP if the other guys allow him, with
participation in the last 80M Club Championships DATA section. They will
be operational using generators as power. Radios used will consist of 2
K3's and a Yaesu FT1000MP MkV and amplifiers. Antennas will consist of a
Hexbeam, a windom and dipoles. Most of the activation is for the WAB
award scheme as the square is semi rare and has not been activated for
some time. The team will be on from the farm for a few days before and
after using the GB0WFF for the World Flora and Fauna award see
www.wff44.com/ for award details, and using the MC0SHL club call and
erecting a tower for Rob MW0RLJ. The island will not only count for the

in Village Bay, St. Kilda is one of only two-dozen global locations to
be awarded "World Heritage Status" for both natural and cultural

24/07/2009:  John, VE8EV will be operating from Sachs Harbour, Banks
island (NA-129, CIsA NW007), Northern Territories, from July 24-27th
(UTC) including the RSGB IOTA Contest. Activity will be exclusively SSB,
mostly on 20m which, aurora permitting, should be open round the clock.

25/07/2009:  EJ0GI will be participating in the IOTA Contest

combined team from South Dublin Radio Club and the City of Belfast Radio

25/07/2009:  The Rockall 2009 group will participate in the IOTA contest
from Ile de Batz (EU-105, DIFM MA-018, WLOTA L-0680), Finistere North.
To recover from the trip to Rockall and to start preparation for a new
attempt, the crew and the support team will join the DXpedition class in
a Multi-Operator, Low-Power effort. Team members include ON3DX, ON4AHF,

Islands (NA-230, new one) for three full days between July 25th and 10
August 10th. Specific island's name and exact dates are not available at
this time, but they will be announced a few days in advance of the
operation. This will be Cezar's most difficult operation to date. The
islands are 12-14 hours away from shore and transportation requires a
large boat. Traditionally unstable weather pattern, unknown local
landing conditions, high seas, the presence of ice chunks in Hudson Bay,
potential presence of polar bears, all these and other logistical
aspects make this trip extremely challenging. At this time Cezar seeks
group and individual donors who understand and appreciate the difficult
and expensive task ahead and are willing to be part of this effort.
"Past support from EU stations has been disproportionate with their QSO
demand (45% of QSOs but only 25% support for VY0A)", he says, but

29/07/2009:  Pista/HA5AO (7P8AO), Frosty/K5LBU (7P8CF), Laurent/W0MM
(7P8MM), John/9M6XRO (7P8OK) and Ben/DJ0YI (7P8YI) will be active from
Lesotho from July 29th to August 13th. They will have two stations QRV
all the time, and a third station might be on for PSK and RTTY. Activity
will be on all bands, with a serious effort on 160 and 80 meters. QSL

31/07/2009:  David GI4FUM is organising a DXpedition to Swaziland as the
result of a request for an amateur radio station at an International
scout camp which will run from July 31st until August 11th. The scout
camp is near to Manzini. It would be their intention to stay at and
operate from Hawane Resort and in addition provide operators for the
scout camp on a daily basis. The camp site will use the callsign 3DA0SS
but each team member will have their own 3DA0 callsign. The camp site is
about an hour's drive away. Team members are David/GI4FUM, Tony/G4LDL,
Gerry/M0MVV, Michael/NC4MM and Yuri/UT5EL. During the stay at Hawane
there is another DXpedition to Lesotho and team members from that
DXpedition might join them. John, 9M6XRO will be transferring to Hawane

31/07/2009:  Merle/N6PYN and Brad/KA5CDJ plan to activate the Seal
Islands (NA-239, new one) as N6PYN/KL7. They hope to be QRV 24/7 in late
July (possibly early August) for at least two days. Their exact start
date is not known, but will not be earlier than July 29th. QSL manager
will be N7RO. They plan to operate SSB and CW on 20, 30 and 40 meters
with 100 watts and a vertical dipole. [N6PYN]

31/07/2009:  ZW6LH (PT2OP) and PR6S (PY6KW) will be active from several
lighthouses in the state of Bahia July 31st to August 3rd, including
participation in the ARLHS Lighthouse-Lightship Week (LLW). Both
stations are valid for ARLHS, DFB (Brazilian Lighthhouses Awards) and

to weather and other things) they can only work as FK/AA7JV or FK/HA7RY

31st in order to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the

24/07/2009:  For the 1250th anniversary of the San Miguel de Pedroso,

under responsibility of the UREBU (URE section of Burgos). The main
activity will happen on July 25th and 26th in San Miguel de Pedroso, by

approaches. This is a remote island and weather may affect the actual

Midway Island 2009

Press Release Number 5                      July 22, 2009

The K4M team has passed a very important milestone with the shipment
this week of 2 tons of radios, linears, antennas (20 of them), radios
(6), computers and interfaces, thousands of feet of coax and stubs, and
various connectors, switches, wattmeters, and all the supplies you would
expect from an operation on a remote Island.   Below is a picture of a
portion of the freight:

The gear will be stored in Hawaii until the supply ship leaves in 3
weeks to Midway.

Our charter flight to the Island is confirmed.  The team is assembled.
Fundraising continues on our website, www.midway2009.com .  If you
haven't visited it in a while stop by and help support our effort.  All
pre expedition contributors who are on LOTW will receive their
confirmations within a week of the end of the DXPedition.
