"Islands, Castles & Portable Operations" Listing is by calendar date (day/month/year) ============================================ 26/05/2011: Laci, HA0HW, will once again be active as J48HW and SV8/HA0HW from Thassos Island (IOTA EU-174, GIOTA NAS-037, MIA MG-124, WLOTA 4186, WW Loc. KN20HS) between 26th May and 5th June 2011. He will take part in the CQ WPX CW contest as J48HW on SO HP AB TB-WIRES. After the contest Laci will be QRV on all HF band +6 m with monoband fishing pole verticals and a 2x17m doublet feeding with ladder line. He has a small MOS-FET amplifier with 300-400 Watts output power. All QSLs are ok via HA QSL bureau! [HA0HW]

01/06/2011: Wally, VK6YS, will be active from Cocos (Keeling) Island (IOTA OC-003, WFF VKFF-577) as VK9CI for around one week from Wednesday 1st June through to Tuesday 7th June 2011. As this is a holiday away with his wife, Gaye, the radio will be secondary and most operations will be early local morning and through the evenings, propagation permitting. 28/05/2011: GB0VUL will be on the air promoting and celebrating the continued flying of XH558, the world's only airworthy Vulcan bomber. The station will be on the air over the bank holiday weekend of 28th and 29th May, 2011, from the Air Training Corps Hall in Newbury, Berkshire, England (IOTA EU-005, WLOTA 1841). 29/05/2011: Once again (for the 60th year) the Association des Radioamateurs de la Sarthe will activate a special event station for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. 30/05/2011: Two call signs GB25AFS and GB4AFR (both affiliated to RSARS) will be activated from 30th May until the 8th June 2011. GB25AFS (Air Formation Signals) is F297 and GB4AFR (Armed Forces Remembered) is F298. Activity will be from the Training Wing at 21 Signal Regiment (Air Support) at Colerne, Wiltshire SN14 8QY by the usual team to be advised. This with the permission of the C/o Lt Col Grahan N Addley; with the Training Wing O/c Capt Jon A Martindale and Staff, also perhaps later at another location. 01/06/2011: As part of the Imagineering stand at the Bath and West Show, Weymouth College are putting on a special event station to demonstrate amateur radio to visitors on 1-4th June 2011. 01/06/2011: Italian Air Force Special Call II3NKE will be active between 1st June and 31 August 2011 commemorating the NIKE Hercules Missile Base Tuono - Passo Coe - Folgaria, Italy. The Radio Club Valsugana-Valsugana Servizio Radio Onlus will organize on Saturday 18th and Sunday, 19th June 19 a special event station with ham radio callsign II3NKE in the ex NATO base named "Thunder Base", near Folgaria (TN, Italy). At "Thunder Base" are three of these missiles, the last remaining in Europe, positioned on the launch pads, while a fourth missile to be dissected and placed in the building for educational purposes. The special radio station II3NKE will be managed by amateur radio operators of the Radio Club Valsugana - Valsugana Servizio Radio Onluss and will operate on all amateur bands HF/VHF/UHF/SHF on Voice, CW, PSK31, RTTY, APRS and wi-fi. A special QSL card created for the event, will be sent via bureau to all amateurs who will contact the station, all the info about the QSL manager will be avaiable online. The activation of the special name II3 NKE is queued to the "3rd Reunion" of ex soldiers who served at the "Thunder Base" and other Italian Nike missile bases during the Cold War period. The II3NKE amateur radio station will operate from control area IFC, on the summit of Mount Toraro, about 3 km from the launch site, where in the cold war period was installed the antenna for radio communications and the three radar for the control of the air space.
