08/10/2011: Jacek, SP5DRH, will once again be active as H40KJ from Pigeon Island, Reef Islands, Temotu Province (IOTA OC-065, WW Loc. He will concentrate on 160 metres (with a focus on Europe) as long as there is propagation otherwise he will concentrate on 80m CW and RTTY (17 and 15 metres). 21/10/2011: Following the successful activation of Hilbre Island (IOTA EU-120, WLOTA 2038) in May this year, Kev M0TNX and Martin M3POG have been granted another permit to operate from the island. Hilbre Island lies 2 miles off The Wirral Peninsula, and has been used over the centuries as a Monastery, a Gentleman's Club, and a decoy in the war to fool aircraft to drop bombs in a safer place! Martin and Kev hope to be on air from Friday, 21st October (evening) to 23rd Sunday (morning). Bands will be 160-10 conditions and weather allowing. With this activation taking place in Autumn, a special emphasis is being placed on the lower bands, with 160 and 80 being run on alternate sunrise and sunset. In May, the duo completed over 1500 contacts, and they hope to be busy this time as Hilbre has never been activated on 160M. This operation will try and run solidly through the night, with a mix of SSB, CW and RTTY. QSL is via Charles, M0OXO who has kindly offered to be the manager once again. 15 October 2011 is the 15-th foundation anniversary of the State Enterprise «Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies» (UCRF). With this regards, during the period 12 – 19 October 2011 the association of radio amateurs of the UCRF will conduct the activities days, in which radio amateurs who are the employees and the former employees of the UCRF will be involved. In honor of 15-th foundation anniversary of the State Enterprise «Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies» the anniversary certificate is established. In order to obtain the certificate it is necessary to collect 15 points for QSO’ s with the anniversary radio stations and radio stations of the employees and former employees of the UCRF during the period 12 - 19 October 2011. Points are distributed as follows: - QSO with EM15UCRF - 10 points; - QSO with EM15, EN15 and EO15 stations - 5 points; - QSO with radio amateurs - employees and former employees of the UCRF - 1 point (the list is attached). Repeated radio communications are taken into account if they are made in different frequency bands. This year is the 100th anniversary of the Amateur Wireless Society of Victoria, formed in 1911, quickly changing its name to the Wireless Institute of Victoria, and today is known as Amateur Radio Victoria. A special QSL card is on offer for contact with VK100ARV. On the front it features defining words capturing the spirit of the founding of the organisation and a gallery of Presidents and the information panel on the back. The Amateur Radio Centenary Award certificate has a montage of the organisation over the decades. Both the QSL card and certificate are worth obtaining for display and will show the Centenary logo. Valid contacts with VK100ARV earn ten bonus points towards the Award. Contact with VK3WI during the Remembrance Day Contest, International Lighthouse and Lightship Week, and the Oceania DX Phone Contest October 1 & 2, and the Oceania DX CW Contest October 8-9 also gained bonus points. For Australian stations a total of 100 points are required and DX stations 25 points. Valid contacts with members during the celebratory period August 1 to November 30, 2011, earns two points towards the award. Also in the celebration are stations set up in Victorian National Parks operating under the Keith Roget Memorial National Parks Award (KRMNPA) rules, on November Friday 18 through to Sunday 20.
