February 2011. He will focus on 160-80-40 metres. Possible serious
participation in CQWW 160-Meter CW Contest (28-30th January), provided that
permits for a specific good TB location is received. Focus will be to give

27/01/2011: Mike, G4IUF, will be vacationing on the island of Saba (IOTA
NA-145, WLOTA 2043, WFF PAFF-025) between 27th January and 3rd March 2011.
Holiday style operation using the callsign PJ6/G4IUF from a rental villa
with plenty of trees and room for antennas. Mike will be using a IC-7000,
with W3DZZ antenna. Aimed at QRGs CW 7 up from band edge, SSB: 3.797, 7.147,
14.157/247, 21.277, 28.477 MHz. QSL via home call. Note: Mike is an ISWL

27/01/2011: From 27th January to 8th February 2011 the Microlite Penguins
DXpedition Team will be active as VP8ORK from the South Orkney Islands
(AN-008), Antarctica, one of the world's most wanted DXCC entities.
Operators are Ralph K9ZO, Tom ND2T, James 9V1YC, Ralph K0IR, Don N1DG, Wes
W3WL, Mike N6MZ, Max I8NHJ, George N4GRN, John VE3EJ, Jerry WB9Z, Lew W7EW,

28/01/2011: The APRE - São Paulo Association of Scouting Amateurs along
with guest operators will carry through on 28, 29 and 30th of January 2011
one expedition to Ilha Comprida, located in the southern state of São Paulo
(Grid Loc. GG65). The Island is valid to IOTA SA-024 and DIB SP-03. The
activation of the island corresponds to a project of more complex
dimensions, that consist of placing in air all blockhouses, islands and
lighthouses of the State of São Paulo. Operators will be Paulo PY2ZZ,
Euclides PY2EV, Claudio PY3NZ, Cristiano PY3UK, Ronan PY2RAR, Marcelo PY2OX,

01/02/2011: Marc, F5SSN, will activate special callsign TM40ZH during the
month of February 2011 to commemorate the RAMSAR Convention. The Convention
on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971) -- called the "Ramsar Convention" -- is an
intergovernmental treaty that embodies the commitments of its member
countries to maintain the ecological character of their Wetlands of
International Importance and to plan for the "wise use", or sustainable use,
of all of the wetlands in their territories. Unlike the other global
environmental conventions, Ramsar is not affiliated with the United Nations
system of Multilateral Environmental Agreements, but it works very closely
with the other MEAs and is a full partner among the "biodiversity-related
cluster" of treaties and agreements. TM40ZH will operate from the site of La

02/02/2011: For the RAMSAR convention wetland day, Maurice F5IYU/p and
Francois F5JNE/p will be active from the Etangs de la Champagne humide (WFF
FFF-148) on 2nd and 3rd of February 2011. Maurice will be QRV on 40m, 30m,
20m, 17m and 15m CW/SSB, while Francois will be QRV 80m, 40m and 20m CW/SSB.

05/02/2011: Andrew, G7COD, will be operational from Embudu Island (IOTA
AS-013) on the South Male Atoll (WLOTA 4031), Maldives, using the call 8Q7AK
from the 5th February to approximately 18th February 2011. Using SSB and CW
on the 80 to 10 metre bands including WARC frequencies. This one is a
holiday trip, so he will be operational every day from approximately 07:30
to 08:30, 09:00 to 10:30, 13:00 to 1500 and 17:30 to 18:00 UTC. Spot
frequencies to be used are: SSB - 3.793, 7.063, 14.190, 18.133, 21.253 and
24.953 MHz +/- 10KHz to allow for QRM; CW - 3.503, 7.003, 10.103, 14.003,
18.073, 21.003 and 24.893 MHz +/- to allow for QRM. He also hopes to have
limited operation on the 160m band but this is not confirmed. All QSL's

22/01/2011: The Porthmadog and District Amateur Radio Society is supporting
SOS Radio Week again this year. The club will be operating on 22 and 23
January 2011 from 10am to 6pm both days from Criccieth life boat station.
And on 29 and 30 January from 10am to 6pm the club will be operating from
the Porthmadog Yacht club The society will be using the callsign GB0PLB. QSL

22/01/2011: Crewe Heritage Centre Amateur Radio Club will also be taking
part in the SOS Radio week, using GB4CHC on Sunday 23, Saturday 29 and

Wish a Happy 100th to a Ham Radio Legend
Leo Meyerson, W0GFQ, a longtime leader in the ham radio industry as owner of
World Radio Laboratories (think Globe Scout and other Globe radios from the
"golden age" of ham radio), will turn 100 years old in February.
QCWA Chapter 154 is hosting a birthday party for Leo and running a special
event station (W0G) on February 24. (Look for W0G on or near 14.260 MHz

Ronald Reagan Centennial Special Events
Two amateur radio clubs in California are planning special event stations in
honor of the 100th birthday of former President Ronald Reagan on February
6th.
The Ventura County Amateur Radio Society will operate N6R from Thousand
Oaks, California, from 1600 UTC on Sunday, Feb. 6, through 0200 UTC Monday,
Feb. 7, and intermittently at other times on Saturday (2/5) and Monday.
Tentative frequencies (+/- QRM): CW: 3545, 7045, 14045, 21045, 28045 kHz;
SSB: 3820, 7260, 14255, 21320, 28490 kHz, plus local repeaters and FM

The Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club will operate W6R at various times and
