27/04/2011: First Canadian WFF Activation - Phil, VE1WT, with his new call
VE1WFF will activate the Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site
(WFF VEFF-0042), Province of Nova Scotia, from 27-29th April 2011. Assisting
will be Art, VE1ART and Layton, VE1MT. Equipment will be FT920 with ham
sticks for 40, 20 and 15 metre SSB, with a possibility of 30 metre CW. QSL

clay beach house located near the village of Ampenyi, close to Cape Coast

LOOKING AHEAD -
30/04/2011: Andrea, IZ2LSC, plans to be active as 3A/IZ2LSC from the
Principality of Monaco during the weekend of 30th April to 1st May 2011. He
will use a light multiband vertical antenna and 100W. Andrea will try to
operate on 40-10m in SSB and CW. Because he is a beginner in CW be patient

30/04/2011: The Cork Radio Club will operate for International Marconi Day
on 30th April 2011 from the original Marconi Site at Brow Head, near
Crookhaven in County Cork, using the callsign EI5IMD. This will be a field
day type operation with our masts on the original Marconi mast bases. The
station will celebrate the 110th anniversary of Marconi setting up his
station on Brow Head and the reception of strong signals from Poldhu in
Cornwall which reassured Marconi that bridging the Atlantic with radio waves
was possible. Prior to this it was thought that radio waves travelled in
straight lines only. The station will be active on all bands both on CW and

30/04/2011: The Norfolk Amateur Radio Club will be participating once again
in International Marconi Day (IMD) on Saturday 30th April 2011 with GB0CMS,
an award station at Caister Lifeboat Visitor Centre. GB0CMS commemorates the
village's original Marconi Station, which was established at Caister in
1900. The station's original purpose was to communicate with ships in the
North Sea and the Cross Sands lightship. They will run two stations - one on

01/05/2011: The 60th Suigo Itako Ayame Matsuri (or Water District
Itako(-city) Iris Festival) will be celebrated with special event station
8J1ITAKO between 1st May and 26 June 2011. Itako is a city located in
Ibaraki prefecture, Kanto region, island of Honshu (IOTA AS-007, WLOTA

01/05/2011: Look for special event station 8J1ITU to be active during the
entire month of May 2011, to celebrate the 43rd World Telecommunication and
Information Society Day (WTISD). The WTISD was established to commemorate
both the foundation on 17 May 1865 of the International Telegraph Union,
which was the predecessor of the ITU, and the World Summit on the
Information Society held in 2003 and 2005. Every year, ITU-AJ holds a

from seven districts in Bryansk area for the 25th anniversary of the

Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant radio amateurs from Ukrainian State Centre of
Radio Frequencies together with a number of Ukrainian radio amateurs will
operate from Chernobyl city in the period from 22 till 30 April 2011 using

23/04/2011: GB2SWF will be celebrating the Speyside Whiskey Festival on
23rd and 24th of April 2011 from the Craigellachie distillery (WW Loc.

24/04/2011: To commemorate the 95th anniversary of the Battle of Verdun,
special event station TM95BV will be active on 24th April 2011 from the Fort
of Froideterre (DFCF 55-004, WCA F-02346), Department Meuse/55 and Province
Lorraine (DPF 14). QRV mainly on HF SSB, but they will try to be active on

25/04/2011: Rockbeare Quarry in Devon hosts GB5RST for Rockbeare Shutter
Telegraph from Monday 25th April until Saturday 30th April 2011. The
operator for this event is John, M0XIG, and will be QRV from HF to 70cm.
This operation counts for IOTA EU-005, WLOTA 1841, WAB SY09 and WW Loc.

29/04/2011: The Amateur Radio Section of ORF (Austrian Broadcasting
Corporation) and the Documentary Archives Radio Communications/QSL

callsign OE11M between Friday, 29th April and Sunday, 1st May 2011
(0000-2400z). The OE11M is an official International Marconi Day station.

KD0S - Jim - April 23 to April 24 - SSB and CW
I will be mobile during the South Dakota QSO party beginning 1700 utc on
23/04/2011 from Hughes county. Other counties on my planned trip will be:
Stanley, Jones, Mellette, Todd, Trip, Lyman, Brule, Buffalo, and Hyde. I
will be active on 6, 10, 15, 20, 40, and 80 meters. HF CW planned
frequencies will be 40 Khz up. SSB will be around 28.455, 21.355, 14.255,
7.180, 3.855 +/-. If time permits I will expand my county list if possible.
There will be other fixed and mobile operators from other SD counties on

LYRID METEOR SHOWER: Earth is entering a stream of dusty debris from Comet
Thatcher, source of the annual Lyrid meteor shower. Forecasters expect the
shower to peak on April 22nd with as many as 20 meteors per hour, although

ANNOUNCING THE IOTA 50TH ANNIVERSARY MARATHON,
1 JANUARY 2012 - 31 DECEMBER 2013
The year 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Islands
On The Air (IOTA) Programme by British SWL Geoff Watts, BRS-3129. As a
build-up to our celebrations on this occasion, the RSGB IOTA Manager and
Committee announce an exciting activity period in which all licensed
amateurs world-wide are invited to participate.
For a two-year period during 2012 and 2013, IOTA chasers are encouraged
to contact as many different IOTA groups as possible, and IOTA activators
to play their part by operating from as many groups as possible, with
special emphasis on the less-frequently activated ones. The points system
adopted rewards 'Activators' with higher scores for activating the rarer
IOTA groups. Certificates and awards will be available to both 'Chasers'
and 'Activators' to reflect attainment of graduated bands of performance
together with attractive prizes for top scorers.
The challenge provides a level playing field for everyone, whether they
are complete newcomers to IOTA or are holders of the prestigious IOTA
1000 Islands Trophy, because everyone starts with a clean slate on 1
January 2012.
We hope that all our readers will consider ways in which they can support
this event. We would like to see work starting now to schedule activity
from as many IOTA groups as possible throughout the 24 months. Let us
target 500 groups initially in the hope and expectation of being able to
raise this higher as the Marathon progresses.

website at www.rsgbiota.org/ shortly when key personnel return from Visalia.

CR6A - 17.April
As you know, the submerged forteress activity was postponed to August 2011
low tides.
On Saturday, team visited the forteress to see condition in loco. Wind
around 30km/h!
On Sunday, wind on 50km/h was impossible travel and landing on the
fortesses.
All team stay on HQ in Armona Island and setup one station on the island to
make few contacts with our CR6A callsign. Atention: All CR6A QSO on April,
17th are not from submerged forteress, only from armona island.

Chris, ZS6RI will be active from Zambia as 9J2RI for a year or two on a 6
week on / 6 week off work schedule, ie - he’ll be in Zambia for six weeks,
then home to South Africa for 6 weeks.
LOTW will be uploaded at least once every 6 week rotation, and probably even
