4X/4Z, ISRAEL (Contest Event). The "2012 Holyland Contest", organized by
the Israel Amateur Radio Club, will be held on 2100z, April 20th, to 2100z,
April 21st, on 160/80/40/20/15/10 meters and on modes CW, SSB and the
Digital. It will provide a good opportunity to work many 4X/4Z stations

6O, SOMALILAND (Press Release #1). Paul, N6PSE, sent out a press release
on March 28th, stating [edited]: "The Intrepid-DX Group is pleased to
announce our next DXpedition, as 6O3A from Hargeisa, Somaliland (Somalia),
to take place from November 6-14th, 2012. The Intrepid-DX Group is the
same group which brought you the recent ET3AA, ST0R and YI9PSE DXpeditions.
Our primary objective is to activate Somaliland with a goal of providing
as many DXers as possible a "new one" with this rare DXCC entity, and as
a secondary objective, to give as many band-slots as possible. We will
focus on North America, KH6, and ZL/VK during those periods when pro-
pagation is possible to those areas.
The team consists of twelve operators including: Co-Leader Paul Ewing/
N6PSE, Co-Leader David Collingham/K3LP, Dave Flack/AH6HY, Jun Tanaka/
JH4RHF, Dmitri Zhikharev/RA9USU, Darko Rusman/E70A, Krassy Petkov/K1LZ,
Hrane Milosevic/YT1AD, Bill Beyer/N2WB, John Miller/K6MM, Al Hernandez/
K3VN and Bob Grimmick/N6OX.
Our QSL Manager is Joe, W3HNK. We will have OQRS available and will
accept direct and Bureau QSL cards. We plan to upload our logs to Club
Log on a daily basis.

According to their Web page, the multi-national team plans to have 5
stations active on at the same time on different bands. Activity will be
on 160-10 meters, including 30/17/12 meters, using CW, SSB and RTTY.
Suggested frequencies are:
CW - 1824, 3504, 7004, 10104, 14024, 18074, 21024, 24894 and 28024 kHz
SSB - 1845, 3780, 7065/7180, 14145, 18145, 21295, 24945 and 28495 kHz
RTTY - 7035, 10140, 18100, 21080, 18100, 21080, 24920 and 28080 kHz
The Pilot stations mentioned are Charles Vaughn/AA6G (West Coast Pilot)
and Col McGowan/MM0NDX (EU, AF, OC & SA). Webmaster/QSL Designer is
Roberto Filloy/EA2RY. On their Web page there is a band and mode survey
available. The 6O3A team is looking for sponsors. Somaliland is ranked
in "The DX Magazine's 2011 Most Wanted Countries World-Wide (Mixed-Mode)"
as 40 (37/AS, 65/EU, 31/NA and 32/AF, OC & SA).
8Q, MALDIVES. Alex, UT5UY, will be active as 8Q7UY from Thulhagiri Island
(AS-013) between April 12-21st. Activity will be holiday style on 80-10
meters using CW and SSB. QSL via UT5UY, by the Bureau or direct.
9M2 & 9M6, WEST & EAST MALAYSIA (IOTA Op). Victor, R6AF, is now active
as 9M2/R6AF/p from Pulau Besar (AS-097), West Malaysia, until possibly
April 5-6th. Also, look for him to be active as 9M2/R6AF/6 (he states),
from Sabah, Borneo (OC-088), East Malaysia between April 8-11th. Activity
will be 40-10 meters mainly on CW but with some SSB. QSL via his home
callsign.
C6, BAHAMAS. Look for Gabriele, I2VGW, to plan a "Bahamas Islands Round
Trip" DXpedition. He already has in his hands the licence and callsign,
so look for him to operate as C6AGW starting April 26th through May 6th,
from New Providence main island (NA-001), as well as Bimini (NA-048) and
Berry (NA-054) Island -- two quite rare and claimed IOTA references. He
doesn't stop there, but before going back to Italy, he will activate Long
Island (NA-001). So, make sure you copy and listen carefully to catch the
right reference number and location. The press release states, "Please
keep in mind that, this time, it will be a very holiday style operation
(with his first mate and supporter that is his wife Roberta)." Gabriele
will put a great emphasis on the Digital modes and the 30/17/12 meter
bands, as well as SSB too. His C6AGW set up will be a new dipole to test,
Icom 7200, vertical HF3 and a Buddipole. For further information and any

D6, COMOROS (Update). A few more details on the upcoming D64K DXpedition
were released this past week by Frabrizio, IW3SQY. A team of Europeon
operators will be active as D64K from Comoros Islands (IOTA AF-007) in
August 2012. Operators mentioned are Fabrizio/IW3SQY, Paolo/IV3DSH,
Antonello/IT9YVO, Franco/IZ8GCE, Giorgio/IZ4AKS, Les/SP3DOI and Salvador
C31CT/EA3QS. The team has already obtained all permissions, and the
license has been sent to the DXCC Desk. It was mentioned that at the
present time it is appropriate to maintain confidentiality about dates
and locations for safety reasons given the delicate political situation
on the island. The official D64K Web site will go online about a month
before the DXpedition. Their license covers from 160 to 6 meters, so the
guys will be active on all bands and modes, and they are even considering
the possibility of working on 60m and 6m. The QSL Manager will be Paolo,

GP3, GUERNSEY. Members of the Telford and District Amateur Society will
once again visit the Island of Guernsey (EU-114, WAB Square WV27) and be
active as GP3ZME/P between June 22-27th. Activity will be on the following:
HF - 160 meters to 10 meters.
VHF - 50 MHz, 70 MHz, 144 MHz and UHF 1.3GHz
SHF - 2.3 GHz, 3.4, GHz, 5.7 GHz, 10 GHZ and 24 GHz.
Their Locator Square of the camping site is IN89QK, but members of the
group may well move around the island looking for the best paths to UK,

IOTA NEWS..............
AS-109. Operators Igor/UA9KDF, Valery/RG8K, Artyom/UA9KAM and possibly
others will be active as RT9K/p from Zhuravlinyy Island between
April 1-5th. The team will use snowmobiles to get to the
island. Activity will be on 80-10 meters. They will use a
Kenwood TS-590, Yaesu FT-857 and an ACOM-1010 amp into a
BiggIR (80-10m) and a Robinson RR-33 antenna. You will be
able to track them on their snowmobiles via APRS at:

AS-154. A team of Hungarian and Turkish operators will be active from
Giresun Island between July 24th and August 1st. Activity will
be on all HF bands. Operators mentioned (with active callsign)
are Pisti/HA5OJ (TB2ZHI/0), Ed/HA5BWW (TA0/HA5BWW), Laci/HA5MA
(TA0/HA5MA), Karl/HA7PC (TA0/HA7PC), Feco/HA8KW (TA0/HA8KW),

EU-008. Operators Graham/MM0GHM, Gordon/MM0GOR, Allan/2M0VNW, Peter/
GM7AAJ and Jason/GM7VSB will once again be active as GM7A
from Gigha Island (IOSA NH24, SCOTIA CS23) during the RSGB
IOTA Contest (July 28-29th). Activity will be on all HF bands.

EU-028. Guenter, DL3NBI, will once again be active as IA5/DL3NBI from
Giglio Island (IIA GR-002, MIA MI-036, WLOTA 0564) between May
15-23rd. Activity will be holiday style on the HF bands. QSL

EU-047. Sebastian, DL1AXX, will be active as homecall/p from Baltrum
Island (GIA N-006) between May 20-25th. Activity will be on
the HF bands using CW and SSB. QSL via his home callsign, the
Bureau is preferred.
EU-049. Fred, PA1FJ, will be active as SV8/PA1FJ/p from Samos Island
(GIOTA SAS-006, MIA MG-099, WLOTA 4163) between May 11-15th.
Activity will be on 40-10 meters SSB only. He will also try
6 meters SSB during E openings. QSL via his home callsign by
the QSL Bureau.
EU-095. Operators Ivano/I2RFJ, Alberto/IV3BSY, Tony/IZ2ESV and Andrea/
IZ2LSC will be active as TM1F from Ratonneau Island between
April 21-25th. They will have 3 stations active on 80-6 meters
using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. QSL is via IK2DUW. Visit

EU-125. Francois, ON4LO, will be active as 5P4LO from Romo Island
(ARLHS DEN-074) between April 15-20th. Activity will be on
80-10 meters using SSB, RTTY and PSK. QSL via ON4LO, direct

NA-092. Jim, WD5IYT, will once again be active from Mustang Island
(USI TX-011S, Nueces County, Texas) during the RSGB IOTA
Contest (July 28-29th) as a Single-Op/Mode-CW/Low-Power/
Island entry. He will be using a K3. QSL via LoTW, direct
(QRZ.com) or by the Bureau.
SA-048. A team of Venezuelan operators from the Grupo DX Caracas (GDXC)
will be active as YX5P from the rare Patos Island between April
19-22nd. Activity will be on all bands and modes. This will be
only the second time that a DXpedition will take place from
this island due to its remoteness and difficult access. The
first DXpedition (YY5P) was made by the GDXC 21 years ago which
makes it the most requested and sought after IOTA in Venezuela.

PIRATE ALERT. Didier, F5OGL, reports that on March 24th and 25th, 2012,
a station operating as TO4E, and sending he was on Europa Island (AF-009),
was definitely a PIRATE. The last TO4E DXpedition to Europa was in 2003,
and there has not been any authorized activity from this island since then.
He also mentions that this prefix block used in 2003 is no longer in use.
Also, the prefix for Europa had been changed four years ago, and no
licence has been issued to anyone. The access to Europa is forbidden
except under special authorization. As a reminder, Europa and the other
islands of the "Iles éparses" (French Eparse Islands) are now under the
"Terres Australes and Antartiques Francaises" (TAAF), and their prefixes
have been changed to the following:

FT5W - Crozet Island FT5T - Tromelin Island

Just a reminder, the prefix blocks FR5/G, FR5/T, FR5/E and FR5/J
are no longer used or exist. Didier, F5OGL, the QSL Manager for the TO5E
2003 DXpedition to EUROPA, will not answer the cards for this activity
in 2012.
ST. PETER & ST. PAUL ROCKS LOGS (Update). Last week we mentioned that
Cesar, PY2YP, was able to obtain the log of the 2000 PS0S St. Peter &
St. Paul Rocks DXpedition from the operators and uploaded the log into
the LoTW. He mentions this week that thanks to PT7AA and PS7KM, he was
was able to receive from PT7WA the following logs:

some more information. I hope to receive the 1978 (PY0RO and PW0PP)
and 1991 (PY0SR and PY0SK) paper logs very soon. I am also trying to
have the logs from PT2GTI operations."
UK POSTAL INCREASE. Tom, GM4FDM, reports that as of April 30th, the
UK Postal system will increase the following:
* A 10gm (0.35 ounces) envelope (airmail type envelope and ONE QSL
card) will now cost 87p to Europe and World Zones 1 and 2.
* A 20gm (0.70 ounces) envelope will cost 87p Europe and £1.28 for
World Zones 1 and 2.
Therefore for a U.S. station to send for a QSL to a UK station (Great
Britain and Northern Ireland) is 2 USDs (the absolute minimum for
return postage), but if you use thick envelopes or expect MORE THAN
ONE CARD in the same envelope, then depending on return weight, 2 USDs
may be insufficient postage, so he would suggest 3 USDs.....

SV5, DODECANESE. Operators Giorgio/IZ4AKS and XYL Silvia/K1XYL will be
active as SV5/IZ4AKS from the Island of Rhodes (EU-001) between April
9-16th. Activity will be limited as this is a business trip. QSL via
IZ4AKS.
V3, BELIZE. Operators Henry/W5HNS, Jay/K0BCN and Marty/W5MRM will be
active as V31WH, V31MX and V31MO, respectively, from Cay Caulker (NA-073).
The team will arrive on July 23rd, and possibly be on the air that day.
They will return to the U.S. on July 31st. Activity will be on 40-10
meters using a 5 band hexbeam and a 40m dipole, operating CW and SSB.
Jay and Henry are the CW ops (as well as SSB) and Marty will operate on
Phone. Nothing has been decided about PSK or RTTY yet. There will only
be one transceiver, so they will not be on more than one band at a time.
During the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 28-29th), they will sign V31MX and
be on the contest allowed bands alternating SSB and CW (on 40m and up).

V6, MICRONESIA. Operators Sho/JA7HMZ (V63DX) and Akio/JA7ZP (V63ZP) will
be active from Pohnpei Island (OC-010) between May 25-29th. Activity
will be on 40-10 meters and all modes. QSL via their home callsigns.
Also, look for V6A during the CQWW WPX CW Contest (May 26-27th) as a
Single-Op/All-Band entry. Operator is JA7HMZ and QSL V6A via JA7HMZ.
VK9L, LORD HOWE ISLAND. Operators Pat/VK2PN and Miro/OK1NG, along with
the help of Chris/VK3FY, will be active as VK9PN during the CQWW WPX CW
Contest (May 26-27th) as a Multi-Op entry. QSL for operator's instructions.
Pat and Miro will be on Lord Howe Island between May 23-30th. However,
Chris will be there on a work assignment between May 27th and June 2nd.
He will only be able to operate during the week and most likely during
the evenings as work will take precedence. He will be active as VK9LHI
after the contest. Modes most likely wil be CW, SSB and some RTTY. QSL
via VK3HF.
WAE NEWS. Ric, DL2VFR, Chairman DX & HF-Contesting of DARC, informs
that the Worked All Europe (WAE) committee has deleted Malyj Visotzkij
(R1MV) as of 17th of February 2012, from the WAE-list. The entity is
now transferred to the list of "Deleted WAE". The WAE-list and the
corresponding award rules will be corrected accordingly.
WUST AWARD (ATTN. Number One DXCC Honor Holders!). The new DX award is
availble and is being offered/sponsored by the Metro DX Club of South
Suburban Chicago. The W.U.S.T. (Worked all U.S. Territories) is a signif-
icant and unique award, and it requires submitting only 16 QSL cards with
a user-friendly application. Some of these 16 WUST territories can be
heard regularly, but many appear on the list of the 25 most wanted countries
and can only be worked during a DXpedition to that location. Don't let
this scare you away, however, because you can qualify for the basic award
by confirming only 14 of the 16 territories. Your remaining two can be
confirmed later and endorsements are available that will signify that
you have reached the ultimate goal. The 16 WUST territories effective
January 1, 2012 are: KG4 (Guantanamo Bay), KH0 (Mariana Islands), KH1
(Baker & Howland Islands), KH2 (Guam), KH3 (Johnston Island), KH4 (Midway
Island), KH5 (Palmyra & Jarvis Islands), KH5K (Kingman Reef), KH7K (Kure
Island), KH8 (American Samoa), KH8S (Swains Island), KH9 (Wake Island),
KP1 (Navassa Island), KP2 (US Virgin Islands), KP4 (Puerto Rico) and KP5
(Desecheo Island). Confirmations can be on mixed bands and modes and there
are no date restrictions. No, it's not as easy as you may have thought,
but remember, this is a DX award. It's not a simple certificate acknow-
ledging contact with a special event station or commemorating an occasion.
You can proudly display this distinctive certificate in your ham shack
and show it to fellow hams acknowledging your efforts in the world of DX.
Remember, only 14 QSL cards get you started on the road to WUST and not
340 that are required to make number 1 on the ARRL DXCC Honor Roll. If
you don't want to take the chance of mailing 16 valuable QSL cards, photo-
copies of confirmations will be accepted. In addition, Logbook of the World
confirmations are OK and must be verified by two licensed amateur radio
operators. Plus, if you are "NUMBER ONE" on the ARRL DXCC Honor Roll and
your station call appears on the list dated August 2010 (or later) you'll
not be required to send any confirmations for the WUST award. Simply file
an application along with 8 U.S. dollars or 4 valid IRCs. Mail your sub-
mission to the Metro DX Club, 3810 N. Chamlin Drive, Morris, IL 60450.
Following the receipt of the original award for a minimum of 14 terri-
tories, endorsements for contact 15 and 16 are available for 3 U.S. dollars

ZL9, CAMPBELL ISLAND. The Hellenic Amateur Radio of Association of
Australia (HARAOA) is organizing a DXpedition to ZL9 Campbell Island
(OC-037), New Zealand, between November 17-30th. Campbell Island (ZL9)
is Number 15 on the current DXCC most wanted list. The ZL9HR DXpedition
team will consist of a total of nine (9) team members including Tommy,
VK2IR (Team Leader), and John, VK3YP (Team Co-Leader). They are inviting
